How the ‘firebreak’ lockdown will affect Aberafan Shopping Centre

We understand that this is a challenging time and would like to reassure you that the wellbeing of our customers, retail staff and employees is our priority.

A firebreak lockdown will come into force in Wales at 6pm on Friday, 23 October, and end on Monday, 9 November. In line with the latest Government guidance, our centre will remain open. Aberafan Shopping Centre has an obligation to remain open so that our community can continue to obtain the health, hygiene, food and toiletry products they need during this difficult time.

We understand the public have been instructed to stay indoors and practice social distancing, which is essential in order to stop the spread of this virus. However, we have a number of ‘essential/key services’ within the centre, they will remain open for essential items.

Our ‘key service’ stores are as follows:

  • Wilko
  • Poundland
  • Boots Chemist
  • Holland & Barrett
  • Iceland
  • Boots Opticians
  • Greggs
  • Home Bargains
  • B & M
  • Costa Coffee
  • Ramsdens
  • Superdrug

These stores will remain open as they are classed as essential/key services. Our opening hours will remain Monday - Saturday: 9:00am - 5:30pm, Sunday – 10am-4pm.

We ask that all visitors and tenants take these steps, which are consistent with Government advice:

  • Please do not come to the centre if you have had a new cough or a fever (Temperature above 37.8C). Seek and follow Government advice.
  • Practice social distancing - try to stay at least 2 metres (3 steps) away from anyone you do not live with (or anyone not in your support bubble).
  • Please wear a face mask within the centre unless under 11 years old or medically exempt.
  • Keep your hands clean, wash regularly and thoroughly, for at least 20 seconds with soap and water.
  • Always carry tissues with you and use them to catch all coughs and sneezes and then bin the tissue – then wash your hands with soap and water.
  • If you think you may have encountered the virus, please follow the government advice and self-isolate in the first instance.

We would like to thank our members of staff who are frontline workers throughout this pandemic, as well as all other frontline workers throughout the country and, indeed, the world.

We will continue to closely monitor the situation, keeping the health and safety of staff and customers as our top priority.

Thank you for your patience and continued support in these difficult times. More information can be found on the Welsh Government website here:
