We are delighted to announce that up-and-coming electronic band, Zola Blood, have filmed part of the video for their latest release, For the Birds, here at the Aberafan Shopping Centre.
Zola Blood is an East London-based quartet who achieved wide acclaim following the release of their debut album, Infinite Games, in 2017. The band comprises of singer Matt West, guitarist Paul Brown, synth keyboardist Ed Smith, and drummer Sam Cunnington.
Since the release of the band’s debut album, they have amassed over 60 million streams worldwide, and have been quietly working on new material in their Hackney studio. This work has resulted in a body of songs that channel intricate arrangements alongside a more direct and powerful sound.
The latest video from the Hackney-based four-piece also features location work close to the shopping centre – beneath the motorway flyover and along the Aberavon beachfront.
The video was directed, filmed and edited by Cardiff-based film maker, Huw Crowley, and features choreography and performance by dancer Luke Bafico, with movement direction by Tina Pastora.
Huw, who is friends with the band, had been filming in Port Talbot as part of an upcoming BBC documentary when he was taken by the visual potential of the Aberafan Shopping Centre and surrounding area for use in the video.
For the Birds Video Director, Huw Crowley, explained:
“I’d been working as a cameraman for a BBC documentary on location in Port Talbot when I visited the Aberafan Shopping Centre and thought – I’ve got to make a video here! I’d always wanted to make a video using a dancer and the centre and surrounding area made the perfect backdrop. I spoke to the band who all agreed that the area made a great visual location to accompany their song.”
Zola Blood is due to embark on a 12-date European tour commencing in Antwerp on April 6.
Video Director, Huw Crowley, has also been asked to make the video for the band’s next single, though the location for this is currently a tightly guarded secret.
