Aberafan Shopping Centre is celebrating its 50th anniversary year in 2026. Officially opened by HRH Princess Anne in 1976, the centre is a popular community hub and the town’s principal shopping destination.
We will be commemorating 50 years of our shopping centre between 9th February and 30th September 2026, the anniversary ‘date’ being 20th February.
Over the years the centre has changed, as has our branding, having seen four different logos with, for 2026, a special anniversary version additionally having been designed.
Our February half-term fun for 2026 is a logo-based colouring competition for children aged 11 years and under. This will run between 14th and 21st February. To enter, you simply need to head to centre square, pick up a colouring sheet of your choice – there will be five versions, one for each of our logos – collect some crayons, and create a masterpiece! Then ask your parent/guardian to complete the entry form and pop it into our post box.
Five lucky people will each win a goody bag. Their creations will also be on display in-centre throughout the 50th anniversary celebrations.

Terms & Conditions
The 50th anniversary colouring competition is open for visitors to Aberafan Shopping Centre, except those involved in the administration of the competition, employees, agents, and their employees, or family members of Aberafan Shopping Centre and its promotional partners.
Only one entry per person will be accepted. Entrants completing the forms must be aged 18 years or over.
False and/or deceptive entries shall render entry ineligible. Aberafan Shopping Centre does not hold responsibility for any abusive content posted on competition and colouring sheet forms.
The prizes must be collected in person from Aberafan Shopping Centre, Port Talbot. No travel costs or expenses incurred in collecting or using them will be covered. Please do not enter this competition if you are unable to collect an awarded prize.
All entrants' details may be used in promotional materials, and the winners may be required to participate in promotional activity related to these competitions. Entry to the competition ends on Saturday 21st February at 17:30 GMT.
The competition is promoted by Aberafan Shopping Centre and may be modified or withdrawn at any time.
Entry to the competition is deemed as FULL ACCEPTANCE of these Terms & Conditions.
Five winners will be selected from the 11 years and under group. The judges' decision is final, and NO CORRESPONDENCE will be entered into.
Aberafan Shopping Centre reserves the right to substitute the prizes with prizes of equivalent value if the originals are no longer available.
The winners will be notified by phone or email within 3 days of the competition end date.
The winners will then be announced via Aberafan Shopping Centre’s social media channels or alternatively for details of the winners’ names, please send an SAE to: Competitions, Aberafan Shopping Centre, Port Talbot. SA13 1PB.
The winners will have 3 days to accept their prizes and should arrange to collect their prizes from Aberafan Shopping Centre within a further 7 days.
