Mayor of Neath Port Talbot Citizen Awards 2026 - April 17th – Margam Orangery
The annual Mayor of Neath Port Talbot Citizen Awards took place at The Orangery at Margam Country Park on April 17th 2026. The event recognised and rewarded individuals and community groups who make a real difference to neighbourhoods and communities in Neath Port Talbot. Hosted by Sean Holley, it was a very emotional evening. The Mayor, Councillor Wayne Carpenter would like to send his thanks to all members of the local business community for sponsoring the evening. Without their support the event would not be possible.
The evening also raised funds for the mayor’s two nominated local charities: Type-1-derful, supporting young people with Type 1 Diabetes and Alzheimer’s Society Cymru.
Community Champion Award with the Aberafan Shopping Centre:

The term ‘Community Champion’ is quite a broad one. In fact, all our winners are Community Champions in their own right. This winner truly deserves this accolade for her volunteering work as Chairperson at ‘Forward 4 Fairyland’ in Neath. Forward 4 Fairyland is a dedicated volunteer-led Community Group transforming the Fairyland Estate in Neath. Through determination, partnership work, and an unwavering commitment to their community, the group has helped turn a neighbourhood once known for its challenges into one defined by pride, participation, and positive change. It’s run by a committee of just four volunteers and delivers a wide range of initiatives which have a significant impact on residents and the wider community. Our Community Champion has served as chair since 2003, dedicating more than two decades to improving life for residents of the Fairyland Estate and inspiring others to become involved in their community. At a mere 84 years old, she continues to lead with passion and determination. Under her leadership, Forward 4 Fairyland has organised countless events, created a thriving community garden, led environmental improvement projects, and built partnerships with organisations such as Keep Wales Tidy, Neath Port Talbot CVS and the Council. After 23 years of volunteering, she continues to give her time, energy, and experience to make Fairyland a place where residents feel proud to call home.
