Richard Burton 100 Centenary Event

An exciting extension to the Richard Burton 100 Exhibition, our major showcase for 2026, is coming to Aberafan Shopping Centre on Friday 7^th and Saturday 8^th November.

Celebrating the legacy of legendary Welsh actor, Richard Burton, in what would have been his centenary year, Sally Robert Jones, the renowned Welsh poet, biographer, historian, critic, and bibliographer, has written specially dedicated poems and prose. Sally will be reading these poems on 7^th and 8^th November.

You can experience the readings in-centre at Aberafan at 12pm on 7^th and 1pm on 8^th November. The Cymric Male Voice Choir will also be in attendance and will be performing at the end of each session.

Following an art competition with local schools and artist groups hosted by Helen John – Interpretation of Richard Burton – Aberafan will be displaying entries in the week leading up to Saturday 8^th November. On or around 2pm on that day, the two worthy winners of this competition - one each from the 4-11 and 11+ years age groups, will be announced.  Presentation of their winning framed art will be arranged at a later date following the end of the exhibition.

The Richard Burton 100 Exhibition continues and evolves at Aberafan Shopping Centre until 14^th November 2025. It has been the perfect tribute to one of Wales’ most celebrated cultural figures. A fitting ‘close’ to the installation will be announced in due course.
