We were delighted to play a small part in Welsh filmmaking when the former Troubador Nightclub at Aberafan Shopping Centre was brought back to life for the filming of scenes from the new Welsh-language feature film, Effi o Blaenau.
Directed by Marc Evans and written by Gary Owen, the critically acclaimed social realist drama is a cinematic adaptation of the award-winning stage play Iphigenia in Splott and was released in UK cinemas on 19 June 2026.
The Troubador Nightclub was once one of Port Talbot's most iconic nightlife venues before closing its doors in 1993. Seeing the space transformed back into a bustling nightclub set more than three decades later was a fantastic experience for everyone involved.
At Aberafan Shopping Centre, we are always keen to explore opportunities that bring vacant spaces back into productive use, and we were proud to support a project that showcases Welsh talent, Welsh stories, and the strength of the Welsh creative industries.
We wish the cast, crew, and everyone involved with Effi o Blaenau every success and look forward to seeing the film continue to receive the recognition it deserves.
